This was one of the first times I saw really serious mammatus with my own eyes. Shot with a point n shoot camera - Texas, 2006.

May 7, 2014 - Henrietta, Texas I re-edited this shot last night of the Henrietta supercell from this past May. I never get tired of going through the shots from this day. We originally positioned ahead of the storm to allow it to mature as it approached us. The storm suddenly stalled and sat nearly stationary for over half an hour, and we watched it transition from a high-based supercell to a surface-based beast right before our eyes. This day remains one of my favorite chase days ever and easily my favorite non-tornado day. ISO 100 f/22 1/10 sec.

I think the graininess adds a sort of ominous touch to this. Very lightened photo of the famous May 25, 2012 La Crosse beast, perhaps at its strongest.

This is a prime example of how just judging a storm by a picture can mislead you. This is not a wall cloud with a funnel under it but rather a developing shelf cloud along a gust front from the thunderstorm. The funnel like feature is nothing more than scud streaming up over the push of relatively cooler denser air as it interacts with warm moist air ahead of it. Taken on 4-23-14 near Wellington, TX.
