Probably my most liked Lightning Photo. Taken 7-18-12 from the Muscatine, Iowa Riverfront. This was a discrete cell that didn’t fire completely until after dark. It didn’t have much but a typical outflow domination and tons of lightning.

This supercell storm was a storm that myself, and only a handful of other chasers were on, but for those of us that were, we witnessed what would turn out to be, a historic storm, as it was responsible for dropping the biggest hail stone ever recorded, near Vivian, SD (July 23rd, 2010). I took this shot, just south of Chamberlain, SD, as this HP beast, rapidly began to overtake me. It’s one of the most intense and amazing storms I’ve ever seen, particularly the incredible structure, and the barrage of positive charged CGs. This is what Mother Nature is capable of, when the cap breaks in a 6,000j/kg CAPE environment with favorable shear profiles. What a chase this was!!!
