Follow Charles One of the most spectacular examples of a “rain foot” I have ever seen! This was during a microburst that fell out of a tornado warned supercell near Capron, Oklahoma on 5/29/12. We saw one nice high based funnel, golf ball size hail, and some nice structure on this chase day. Here, we were underneath one of the main updrafts, trying to escape, and get back out ahead of the storm. When wet microburst precipitation cores hit the ground, they spread out, forming a flared bottom, which is commonly referred to as a “rain foot” feature. Very strong winds usually accompany microbursts. Pretty sweet!
