Crazy downdrafts in Appleton, Wisconsin on June 27th, 2013. Shot this with Canon 7D with 17-40mm lens. Settings were f/4 | 1/40 | ISO-250 @ 26mm. Before this storm (round 2) came in I was on a gustnado. I will post that photo tomorrow.

Canberra Australia is not known for it’s storms, however on the 29th/30th of November 2011 we had three waves of high based severe storms roll through the city. This shot was taken at Regatta Point, on the side of Lake Burley Griffin. I’d switched from taking video to stills just before this shot as I felt that a close Cg was imminent. Just as two joggers ran past a small granite moment this cracker landed, they escape without harm but I would say they’d be a little shaken. I was 100m away from it’s landing point.
The granite monument still sports a white finger like mark on the surface which I assume is the silica being fused. The white dots are 2cm hail falling frozen in the instant flash of the bolt. I have many lightning shots from this event which is great return for this quiet weather capital.

A Small Isolated Cell with a Nice defined Rain core and the Lightning Dancing all around it. A Very Photogenic Storm with the Wonderful Cloud Definition and it all Back lit by a Full Moon. It was a Sweet Setup. Took this just north of Altus Oklahoma on August 21st 2010. ISO 200 f/4.5 for 30 Seconds.

July 20, 2009 - “Sweet Dreams” - Enid, OK - This south-moving storm came from Kansas and continued to hold together long enough for me to meet up with it northwest of Garber well after sunset. It moved south into Enid and died shortly after. The blues and purples are from the lightning in the core, and the oranges and reds are from the lights of North Enid. Perfect combo.

This is a photo of mine from last year of the early stages of the now pretty famous Ansley, Nebraska supercell last year on May 26. What an amazing storm this was to witness in person! I’ll never forget it! Can’t wait to come back over to the USA next year!
