Lightning in the desert region of “outback” Australia as the storm season starts to kick into gear in November last year. This was photo was taken along the only road between Boulia and Mount Isa where there is literally NOTHING for miles and miles…

So jetting across the pond for my annual pilgrimage to Tornado Alley & a shot from this years chase-cation. The sun was getting low & a developing storm caught mine & my chase buddy Dave’s eye as we were headed back south towards Oklahoma. The conversation went a bit like this. Dave “Oooo that looks quite pretty, maybe we should stop & try & shoot some lightning” Me “I was thinking the exact same thing, where shall we go? I don’t want to stop here on this road as there’s nothing interesting, we need to find a barn or something”. Driving frantically looking for a location with something interesting before the Sun got too low & the light lost I spot a sign on the side of the road. “How about Chimney Rock, will that do?” We both grinned like idiots & raced to it & set ourselves up & started shooting. The funny thing was, back in 09 we’d visited Chimney rock & said how cool it’d be to get a storm over the formation. Only 5 years in the making. Hope you like.
