Follow Willoughby Isolated storm cells as viewed to the northwest from Katherine, Northern Territory. The cell in front was some 95 km away near Pine Creek and the one on the right and the back was a further 100 km just east of Adelaide River township. The storm on the right would have a height to 55k feet, to the tropopause. High dewpoints and low shear in a tropical air mass characterise these storms. 12 December 2014.

Distant Thunderstorms 6/22/08 Viewed from atop Fisk Knob (the highest point in Kent County, Michigan) a cumulonimbus anvil billows in the distance on a warm summer evening. This was the only storm cell around, so I had a front row seat to watch it from birth to death. Amazing!
