When I arrived at this location the sun was just setting behind this old barn and lined up perfectly with the side window of the barn. This is located about 5 miles west of Lebanon, Oregon in the Willamette Valley.

This is becoming a regular occurrence! Here’s a massive clear air bolt I captured tonight on a chase west of Mackay Australia looking towards Dysart.

For a few days twice a year – shortly after the Spring Equinox and shortly before the Autumnal Equinox – The sun is perfectly positioned at sunset over Monument Valley for the West Mitten to cast its long shadow onto the East Mitten. On September 13, 2013, the day was perfect for capturing both this phenomenon and a monsoon thunderstorm rolling in from the southwest.

As temps warmed into the 40s today it melted a lot of the ice we had on the snow but with that melting gave me one of the best most unique sunset photo ops have ever had. Taken in Spring Arbor MI this evening.
