Follow Christopher For a few days twice a year – shortly after the Spring Equinox and shortly before the Autumnal Equinox – The sun is perfectly positioned at sunset over Monument Valley for the West Mitten to cast its long shadow onto the East Mitten. On September 13, 2013, the day was perfect for capturing both this phenomenon and a monsoon thunderstorm rolling in from the southwest.
