Why so cold?

I saw the above headline on The Weather Channel a few minutes ago. Why so cold? Because it’s fall. I always am semi amused during the summer when people are amazed at how hot it is.It’s Summer.Well, same thing goes for fall and winter, and it’s SUPPOSED to be colder now. I hope it gets a lot colder, kill off some bugs and germs. Please.

The South is experiencing cooler temperatures, it was in the high 30s a few days ago and we were under a Freeze Watch this morning. Up north and to the West they have already experienced and are experiencing frozen precipitation. A few weeks ago there was that blizzard that killed scores of cattle in the Northwest.

These cooler temps are not a bad thing, they are a good thing. Back in the day, as if I am so, so old. It being cold was normal, ice and freezing, normal.It’s good for us. Especially places where there are a lot of mosquitos and bugs, it kills the little boogers off. We need the cold, so be thankful for it.It’s good for you.

Wild fire in Australia

There is a massive fire raging in Australia right now, devouring homes and thinkings, They’ve discovered the cause was, the military. At least one of the fires anyway. It’s sad, I hope they can contain it in the near future.

Lions, tigers and typhoons oh my!

The Far East has experienced some bad luck lately in the form of typhoons. They are still searching for victims from Typhoon Withal and now in Japan they are bracing for Typhoon Francisco. The last hurricane has caused mudslides, trapping and unknown amount of people under the mud. Now people are beginning to evacuate ahead of the landfall of Franscisco, which is packing strong winds and heavy rains, which could cause more mudslides. And now it is possibly on a collision course with Typhoon Lekima which is even fiercer than Franscisco.Lekima could stall Francisco causing it to drop an enormous amount of rain in one location.

As of this morning, it appears that Lekima will go completely out to sea, which I am sure the people of Japan are very grateful for. As of yesterday it had winds of 149 mph or 130 knots .It’s waves are 45 ft. in height /13.7 meters. Although they still got fairly soaked by Franscisco, it’s a bit better than taking a direct hit from monster Lekima.

Typhoon vs. Hurricanes?

Just in case you don’t know, they are the same thing, the only difference is location.Location, location, and location.The Longitude determines what it is called. Anything east of the International Date Line is called a Hurricane. Anything west of it, is called a Typhoon.

Hurricane Raymond

Category 3 Hurricane Raymond dumped a lot of rain North of Acapulco earlier this week, and had wind speeds of 120 mph.However, thankfully, after sitting off shore for a while, it has decided to head out to sea. Unfortunately not before dumping a lot of rain and increasing the chances of flooding and mudslides. But hey, it could be worse…it could’ve made landfall.

Oarfish linked to earthquakes?

There are old legends that say that the old fish die prior to an earthquake. Now scientists are testing that theory as 2 oarfish have washed up in the last 2 weeks. They are going to monitor the California seismic zones for activity. And they have several theories as to why the oarfish die as a result of earthquake activity, if it is indeed true. They think that the rumblings may release gases that are harmful to the fish or it releases electricity into the water. No one really knows. Now to see if the old sea tale is true.

In 2010 there were earthquakes in Chile and Taiwan, opposite sides of the Pacific and quakes in Haiti, followed by a lot of oarfish washing up dead. It is also believed that catfish also warn of earthquakes.

Well, it appears there just may be some validity to the oarfish-earthquake connection. Today(I started writing this story yesterday) there has been a 7.5 quake hit off the coast of Japan and was felt 300 miles away in Tokyo. They are now under a Tsunami warning.

Interestingly enough I just read a headline from 2 days ago where another writer had written “Oarfish predict quakes, apparently they suck at it.”…if there is a correlation, as it appears there very well might be, will he have to redact his story? Or at least revise it? I’m sure people will say it’s just a big coincidence but, who knows? I’m a bit science nerd, especially of things in nature, this intrigues me. I personally think there might be something to it. Too bad there is not some oarfish death index combined with a seismic index. That would be really, really cool. Anyway, we shall see. Stay tuned for whether or not Japan gets a tsunami.*crossing fingers* hope they don’t.
