June 20, 2014. This was shot from near the top of Tioga Pass near Yosemite NP looking east. Spectacular lenticular cloud was lit up nicely by the setting sun.

Saw some amazing colors last week during the monsoon storms here in Colorado. This was taken near Bijou, CO on the Palmer Divide.

My pic today is yet another very different themed one than what everyone is use to seeing. With last years brutal historic winter for the Great Lakes came scenes rarely observed here.One of which was one incredible light pillars display after another. Took this last December. Light Pillars are created by light glinting off of tiny ice crystals. The beam path of the light is where the pillars form. The colder the air the sharper the Pillars. These were fatter so it was around 10 degrees. If it gets around 0 or colder they become very narrow almost needle like.

Minutes after it formed, the tornado approaches Pilger NE from the southwest; this was prior to its devastating strike on the town, and before its ‘twin’ touched down. An unforgettable but sad chase day, June 16 2014.
